One of the best hymnal within Christendom is the:
1940 HYMNAL of the Protestant Episcopal Church
(Copyright 1940 and 1943 by The Church Pension Fund

This hymnal is presently the Church Hymnal of traditional Episcopal/Anglican Parishes located within the United States.

Of the 600 hymns contained in this hymnal, about half of them were listed for being popular and/or singable hymns of sufficient creativity and musicality, without awkward melodic-interval progressions nor inconvenient note-value rhythms.

Different poetic lyrics are sometimes used for the same tunes. Hymn singers generally prefer and associate a particular group of poetic lyrics for each particular tune. This author having been brought up in the Augustana and LCA (Lutheran) hymnal music and lyrics would consider certain (notably sexist anti-male-gender) poetic deviations from the traditional wording of hymns sung with different words both divisive and non-acceptable.

Many Christians of the Lutheran Church in America denomination are familiar with their appropriate and familiar wording of same-tune hymns listed below.

Orthodox (i.e. genuine) Christian saints would find anti-male feminist-revisionist and sin/repentance/judgment-omitting lyrics set to the same hymn scores strange, foreign, confusing, and inappropriate.

Somewhat regrettably, much or the wording found in traditional hymns is questionable as to being needlessly rife and reeking with archaic and almost obsolete [Elizabethan/Victorian/King-James]-antiquity word usage of "Thee, Thou, Thy," along with now outdated and outmoded, pseudo-sanctified "-eth" word endings.

Of concern also is some of the deplorably faster tempo and dynamic descriptions given for some of the hymns. For example, there is stated that the hymn Nearer My God To Thee should be sung "fast and joyful" (at warp speed). Apparently, the apostate heretic subversive who miswrote such impropriety had some kind of weird hangup and aversion against slower purportedly-"funeral-song" tempos -- fearful against slower tempos which would cause such hymns to be sung stately, with dignified seriousness, and in Biblically-concordant somber reverence.

Finally, the doctrinal richness and Scripturally-directed theology of the following hymnbook hymns is far more appreciated, informative, intelligent, and edifying than the simplistic mantra of what is popularly referred to as pablum-doctrine "Praise Songs" words only projected on a large screen, noxiously repeated for an audience apparently with both pathetically-limited vocabulary and childishly-simplistic non-harmonic musicality ......usually to the public-nuisance and irritating loud accompaniment of frequently-shrill worldly-sounding electric guitars plus sometimes-deafening rock-band percussion. Older people, steeped in the rich, informative, convicting, sometimes contemplatively-minor-key, four-part-notation and associated theology of hymnbook hymns consider such repulsive "Praise-Song" (sometimes with trickly-offbeat jazzy-rhythm) noise indescribably disgusting -- whether or not they courageously voice such objection against children-rule wimps conforming "for the sake of the kids and them continuing to attend church." Such abominable racket is almost as abhorrent as no-pause-lyrics niggar-mantra "rap" noise.
